History of the Home
A Home Called Hope
Hope Children's Home (Prathyasa Bal Bhavan) exists to care for needy and underprivilaged children irrespective of caste or creed and to provide for their total development.
Prathyasa Bal Bhawan was established in 1991 to care for the children of rag pickers and other children under distress, and to provide for their education and development. It is run by the Hope for Children Society, a registered body. The home is directed by Mr. John and Deepa Varghese. The home is situated in Pondha Village, Prem Nagar, Dehra Dun, Uttarakhand, India.
The vision was born in Mr. John Varghese's mind when he was a student at Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Dehra Dun, India. His first visit to the Madras Colony (a community of rag pickers) created a burden in his heart for the children of that colony. After two years of work, he realized that in order to help the children in the long run, they needed to be taken out in order to grow up in a morally and socially healthy environment.
