Prathyasha Bal Bhawan was established in 1991 to care for the children of rag pickers and other children under distress, and to provide for their education and development. It is run by the Hope for Children Society, a registered body. The home is directed by Mr. John and Mrs. Deepa Varghese.
Who are Rag Pickers?

Prathyasa Bal Bhawan
You will see them in most Indian cities. With their dirty clothes and smelly bodies, they can be seen sitting through garbage dumps and dustbins to find something of value, something that can be recycled. Most of them are women and children. They live in "colonies" or crowded ghettos.

Prathyasa Bal Bhawan
Lakshmi lost her father when she was about three years old. Her mother was a rag picker who was arrested and beaten up by the poli ce many times. She came to the home when she was six years old. Today she is an intern in physiotherapy in a Medical College.
